1) The crib, as many of you had read, arrived a month or so ago. But I finally just got around to washing it (it came from a consignment store and needed it!). We also got a new mattress as the one that came with it was just not firm enough and was slightly too small for the crib leaving spaces in between the frame. And we bought one pad and one crib sheet (they never have the crib sheets I put on my registry when I go to the store!!! AGH!). Nonetheless, the crib is ready for babies. And, thanks to Richard Souza, my long-term sub, we have two bouncy chairs! What an amazing guy...
2) THE most amazing ADULT chair has arrived: It swivels, it rocks, it glides with the ottoman, it reclines, it is soft. I imagine I will be spending lots of time in this chair breastfeeding, rocking babies, sleeping... I love it! and so does Charles!
3) I had picture frames up before (when it was an office) using some of my photography skills. But the pictures of trees and other nature things didn't seem to work with the baby theme. So I took some of my favorite baby congratulations cards, and put them in the same frames. They look so adorable!
4) At the end of February, before I left my classroom, a fellow special education aide was helping me clean out my sewing closet. She found a bunch of wooden spools left with barely any thread on them. She started a little collection on my desk; I then saw the spools used as a "coat rack" of sorts in the Pottery Barn catalog. Charles took my spools, and made our own version of the coat rack (for way less money). I figure, things are always getting wet and need washing with babies. Why not have the cutest little rack to hang the things on? Didn't Charles do an excellent job? (I would have helped but he wouldn't let me near the paint or the router...) :-) (More cards framed with spool coat rack below...)
This is the funnest part for me!

The room looks so wonderful and I love the spool rack. You guys have done such a great job. Sorry we haven't been out yet but I've been fighting a bug since last Saturday. A soon as I'm past it we'll come for a visit.
Love you bunches!
Jeanette
That is SO CUTE!! I love the ideas.
Now I am going to offer you the best middle of the night "puke, pee, exploding diaper" crib advice.
Layer it like lasagna. Waterproof mattress pad, crib sheet, waterproof mattress pad, crib sheet.
THEN when one of the above mentioned things happens at 3 in the morning and you are dead dog tired and disoriented, you just yank off the top sheet and pad and you are good to go. Then you aren't trying to make the bed in the middle of the night with crying babies and so on. Then in the light of day you can wash the dirties and make up the bed again.
I promise you will thank me for this ;)
The room looks awesome guys! Great job!! :) love the colors and that chair looks super comfy! :)
To Jeanette: thanks girly...feel better! Come on over any time.
To Louanne: I actually had heard of that, but totally forgot it. I am thanking you now in advance, cuz we will totally do this!
I love the room...it looks cozy and ready to rock babies. That was a clever use of wooden spools....
As for the name, I am partial to Adelle as that was my grandmother's name...her full name was Forrest Adelle.. I know the names you and Charles choose will fit the girls just perfect...they always do...
I very much enjoyed reading this. (when was it posted?)
Anyway, I laughed so hard, got teary, laughed again, and SO applauded Charles for his kind patience, and YOU for being free to be you, even IF a sourpuss. Anyone who has ever been PG can relate to being miserable. And yet, you look wonderful! I gained 68 lbs with Kirsten and felt unrecognizable. You look fantastic - with TWINS! The room looks perfect - love the colors, the ideas, the creativity and talents (go Charles!) and want to know WHERE to get that adult chair!! The pictures of the feet made me laugh and yes, I couldn't even fit into the grocery store thongs or flip flops! Barefoot and pregnant, so true..
LOVE your writing style, Amy. The talent is definitely in the genes.
And Louanne, I'M thanking you for the great idea as I will pass it along! Wish I had thought of that one back in the day!
Your mom shared hers and Christie's name votes and I agree along with them. Look forward to the others.
We look forward to seeing the pix of other showers - your mom's visit and of the BIG DAY!
That crib sheet/mattress pad suggestion rocks!!! Brilliance!!! Send more!!
The babies room looks GREAT!!! Love the comfy chair!
To Gail: Glad you could emphathize and enjoy my crazy blogs since you guys are so far away....it helps and makes me feel closer to you all.
By the way, the chair we got at CSN Sofas.com. We searched high and low (again I credit Charles...) while I was working he looked at every thrift store, furniture store, and department store in the bay area and couldn't find anything. Pottery Barn has a version of this chair, but it is almost twice as expensive. We found this good quality chair at CSN Sofas for a much better price, free shipping and you pick your own material. It was a risk since we couldn't sit in it and it wasn't returnable since we picked the fabric, but we read lots of good reviews and luckily it worked out. We ended up ordering our dressers from there too because we did the same run-around. We'll let you know how that works out.
I promise more blogs to come on the other showers and just regular updates.
So love to read your blog. You are both adorable, room looks great and I'm getting so very excited for you guys as the big day gets nearer.
By the way, your friend Louanne is a genius! Oh for the times I would have loved that crib sheet solution through the years.
Can't wait to see you again. Love you guys much.
Bennie
