Got a Crib

Boy we were having a hard time with this one:

1) do we get 1 or 2?
2) do we buy used or new?
3) do we get white or maple colored?

We tried looking at used cribs on Craigslist, and we found some cute pairs of cribs from other mothers that had twins, and the cribs were a good deal: 2 each of mattresses and cribs for $350. However, when we looked up the brands on the internet, they were recalled recently. Most of them due to the drop sides. I guess that is a big problem these days. We just didn't feel comfortable getting them knowing those specific ones were recalled.

We looked at the new ones at Babies R Us, and they had cute ones. We thought we saw a good deal when the crib was on clearance for $250.00, but later realized that it only included the frame; the mattress was another $190! Times both of those times 2 and you can see what we are dealing with!

Many twin moms said that their twins slept well for the first two months in the same crib. The babies were used to hearing each other and feeling the warmth of each other. It made them sleep better. And the cribs are so big that really they can both fit without a problem. Later, of course, they might end up waking each other up or whatever so we'll have to deal with it.

I had seen a maple, Ethan Allen solid wood crib at a local consignment store. It was $229 and included the mattress. It was in good condition (no dings), and all the parts were there and in working order. Charles looked at it, and although it had a drop side, the feature requires that you push in to have it drop, which would be most impossible from the inside of the crib. It also is secured at the bottom so the drop side won't slip out. We did a quick search online and found nothing about Ethan Allen cribs being recalled so, we took at chance and went down to the store to see it one more time.

We walked in, and I guess it had been there long enough for the store to begin discounting. It was now $169 including mattress. I felt it was meant to be, so we bought it! And with my sister's gift certificate of $50, we really only spent $110.00 on this crib! What a blessing! Thanks Ms. G!

Hey, Amy.

Our friend had twin girls (now they 7 months old). They slept together in the same crib until they were 4 months old. Then they started to wake up each other and the parents had to seperate them (at first, it was the regular crib and a potable one).
