Latest Dr.s Visit

Yesterday, Charles and I went for our monthly check up. I am currently 29 weeks along. The visit went well! The really good news is that my blood pressure has remained low throughout the pregnancy and this has not changed. I was a little worried because of increased swelling in my hands and feet, but it seems that this is just a product of the third trimester! "It will get worse...sorry to say it!" my doctor said! But it was reassuring that this is normal.

I also took a slew of blood tests from thyroid to glucose tolerance to CBC. All looks good. I don't show signs of gestational diabetes (whew!) and my thyroid is in check (with medication). My anemia is normal for a pregnant woman and I am supplementing with additional iron pills. I am off all other extra medications now as well, except for the thyroid. What a relief that is! Injections are a pain in the $#%! Literally!

The other really good news is that the babies continue to progress in size and neither seems to be growing particularly faster than the other, which can be the case with twins. Baby A is currently 3 lbs and is in the 53rd percentile for her age (totally average size) and Baby B is currently 2lbs 14 oz and is in the 48th percentile for her age (totally average size). So, again, really good news.

The only thing that might prove later to be strange, is that Baby A is currently in the breach (breech?) position. Since she is the first one out, the doctor said if this stays the same it would "buy me a C-section." If Baby A was in the regular position (head first), and Baby B wasn't, then they probably could have eased Baby B out as long as Baby A cleared the pathway. But it doesn't work so well the other way around, and obviously can cause distress for me and Baby B while we try to figure out how to get Baby A out.

Regardless, it is still early and babies move all around throughout the pregnancy. From now on, I will be seeing the doctor every two weeks to just monitor baby size and positions.

YAY!
