Father's Day

To treat Charles for Father's Day, I thought he could have breakfast in bed, then we could take a nice stroll to the park, have a picnic, and then go and visit a collectible car show in Yountville.

I love this picture (even though the shadows are weird)! I swear Abigail (in red) looks like an actress. I mean just look at Charles' T-shirt! How perfect is that!

The day started a little earlier than expected when the girls woke me up for nursing at around 5:30 am. After feeding them, I went back to bed but heard Charles rustling on the other side of the bed, stomach growling. He is a morning person and if his stomach is growling in the morning, he won't be able to sleep. I really wanted to make him breakfast in bed as he did for me on mother's day but I knew if I went back to sleep, he might wake up before me and eat something on his own.

So I got up and made eggs on toast with some fruit on the side. I brought it to his bedside cheerily chirping "Happy Father's Day!" only to realize that he wasn't awake at all. But to be chivalrous, he got up and sat down at the kitchen table to eat breakfast with me. After eating, and somewhat out of his dreamy stupor, he looked at the clock, then at me, and asked gently, "Did you mean to get up this early?" What a Father's Day gift indeed!

Soon after, Charles proceeded to fall asleep on the couch to have a late morning nap, while I packed the picnic for later in the day. With the car packed and girls dressed and ready to go, we drove to Yountville, found a local park, and laid down the new quilted throws that my dear friend Katherine had made for the girls. We ate our picnic in the shade of some beautiful trees and took some great pictures. Then we walked through the Yountville downtown looking at the car show.

Even though we had a little earlier start than we would have liked, it turned out to be a beautiful day!

Friend Lilia had bought the girls the sunglasses which I got at our last shower. Since this was our first picnic and it was actually hot that day, I thought I would bring them. They are still a little too big, but they were cute nonetheless!

This is another one of my favorite pictures. Annabelle is in orange and Abigail is in red. Look how their arms cross when they sit close together. So cute!
