Colors and a Theme

Okay, I admit. I have been a bad seed. I didn't realize that having a "theme" was so important! I have had friends ask me what my theme was, and my response has been, "well the room is green and yellow." "That's NOT a theme," I was told.

Truthfully, how does a person pick a theme? Do they start with colors, and then have a favorite character or something? There are so many themes to choose from, and many of them don't match the green and yellow of the room! Whenever I search for crib bedding, they separate it into girls and boys and the girls stuff is undoubtedly PINK, and the boys stuff is blue.

I liked this one frog night light so I registered for it, but that doesn't mean I have to have frogs on everything.....Sorry, help if you can...I am having issues with the idea of a "theme."

In addition, we are open to, and have been receiving many hand-me-downs from wonderful friends, co-workers, and family members. That means, that these things won't always go with the theme we could pick.

For the girls clothes, we like anything! Anything that is comfortable, appropriate for the weather and their age. Even though the girls are twins, they are fraternal so they don't have to be identically dressed. We have had people give us things that had similar colors, but not identical outfits. We have had people give us idential outfits too and that is great! Truthfully, it doesn't matter to us. Gently used, brand-new, matchy-matchy, or somewhat matching are all fine.

We just feel blessed to receive the gifts we have from our loved ones.

I think it's great for your theme to be No Theme. They outgrow it so quick anyway, and like you said, when you are happy to receive hand-me downs, etc. things are not going to match in the end anyways. You have enough things to think about other than stressing if everything is matching in the room. By the way, Pottery Barn Kids and Target online both had cute bedding I found that was gender neutral, modern, cute and flexible. http://www.potterybarnkids.com/room_g/rom/romnur/romnurlmbie/ and http://www.potterybarnkids.com/room_g/rom/romnur/romnurctn/ for example. You could also think about making Organic your theme and then you would get lots of great bedding, blankets and clothes from people that were hyper-allergenic, soft, eco-friendly and people would feel like they were participating in a theme. See http://www.potterybarnkids.com/room_g/rom/romnur/romnurorg/. I love Target's online neutral collections because they can be so modern and whimsical - and affordable! http://www.target.com/Neutral-Crib-Sets-Bedding-Baby/b/ref=sc_iw_r_1_1/190-1143564-4547748?node=720445011

We have no theme either. I am not sure if you remember from your visit in 2007, but we had the words on the wall 'smile, giggle, chuckle' in primary colors and the paintings on the walls were all primary colors.

So everything we registered was for primary colors and in that respect it's worked out well since it doesn't seem babyish since Nadia is "all little girl" now.

Excellent, Dina! Perfectly stated! And certainly, as Dina said, this is not something to stress about - heavens no! And since you are just happy to have all this going on and seeing it all come together, it is exactly as it is! Which is perfect! Like the wallpaper on this Blog - it's soft and neutral, and organic but since there is so much out there why not just enjoy it all!? A co-worker of mine is doing all theme - expecting a girl - wants NO pink, and is wanting orange or brown! Do you know how hard it was to find infant baby girl stuff in orange or brown! To heck with it! What I got her was PINK, with some brown on it! And it looked cute. But hey, the wrapping paper and ribbon was orange! :)

Love it Dina! You are on the ball.

Gail, be careful about the orange....I thought Charles might chose Orange and Black because he's a Giants fan! ;-) Lord knows those girls will be attending games at some point! GO GIANTS! :D

Ha! You are right Jeanette...Charles said to me one day, "I hope the girls will like fishing." And I told him, "They will like to do anything you are doing. Just bring them along." So going to Giants games is definitely on the list!
