How am I feeling?

A lot of people have been so cool in asking how am I feeling. And I think the curiosity of how does a person feel (is it different) when they are carrying twins? Well, I have never been pregnant with a singleton so I just know how I felt before I was pregnant and how I feel now.

And generally the news is good! I really can't complain. I get to eat whatever I want :-) and people are extra nice in helping me pick up things when I drop them! It's been good!

But to those of you who are super curious about my aches and pains, here is a list of some of my ailments:

1) I am BIG around the middle! That's a no brainer, but it changes the little things in life.
***For one, it can make getting in and out of the car more difficult. But I just turn differently, then use the little handle above the car door (who knew that thing could come in handy?).
***The other thing is that I grow out of my clothes like a newborn baby will. I went to the thrift store and bought some maternity clothes two weeks before Christmas. I bought them with extra space knowing that I would continue to grow. Well, today I put one of my favorite shirts on and it doesn't cover the bottom of my tummy any more. Tis life.
***Stretching the belly is a natural part of this process and my skin itches a couple of nights a week. I put on this cream that my friend gave me after every shower and it seems to keep the skin moist and not too dry. But I also itch on the back of my calves! It is sooooo weird! I don't know why I itch there!
***Although the belly stretching is natural, I never really thought about the belly button. It is super strange to see it slowly grow from an inny to an outie. I had a lady at work tell me that when it popped out all the way, it was like a timer. It means "your done!" I thought that was hilarious!

2) The biggest ailment I have been having is sciatica. If I stand too long, or sit too long, especially in one position, I begin to get the striking nerve pain down my right leg. Once I walk for a bit I can walk it off. But it is suprisingly alarming every time it happens and definitely lessons my leg strength.

3) The most surprising ailment has been ACNE! I have pimples where I never had pimples before: on my back, on my neck, under my chin, and all around my mouth. I have a new facial washing regimen now that I never had to worry about before: soap first to wash off makeup, then blemish control apricot scrub, then zit cream to sleep with at night. Even all that does not control all the zits and I still have to use cover up when I go to work. I have been spoiled (and blessed) with good skin all my life and I never really knew I had it so good.

4) Tiredness is a classic pregnancy symptom and I have had plenty of that. But I have a great husband and wonderful friends who encourage me to take it easy. And I have been working over the past three years on listening to them. I know that seems super silly to say, but believe me, I never listened before! I was such a workaholic! But now if I feel tired, I just say to my students, "hey I need to sit for a second!" You would be surprised how helpful they are! They want to get my books for me, turn the lights on and off, and do some of the things I used to run around crazy doing. Now I just let them do it and it makes us both happy.

5) Swollen hands and feet. This has been coming off and on. It is only annoying because some of my shoes don't fit right and I can't wear my wedding rings. I have had a ring stuck on my finger before. When I turned 21 Charles took me to Las Vegas. He had given me a simple silver ring for Valentine's Day that I was wearing as we trapsed down the strip in 100 degree weather. The blood pooled in my hands and the ring got stuck. We tried everything: cold water, ice, butter, vaseline, lotion, cream, sleeping on it. Nothing worked. Finally, Charles and I took the bus to the nearest fire station and they cut the thing off. Those ring cutters burn like hell! I still have the ring with the slice in the back for good memories. I did not want to have to cut off my wedding ring so I am not taking chances.

Well, I hope this updates you without being a boring list of complaints!
